Refined Reflections
The intent of this project was to transform a dark, under-utilized residential landscape into a cohesive and inviting extension of the home, while retaining mature trees and respecting the constraints of a compact urban site. Existing conditions included a heavy masonry façade, limited functional circulation, and poor drainage, which collectively contributed to a landscape that lacked warmth, clarity, and connection to the architecture.
The design theme, refined naturalism, guided all planning and construction decisions. Architectural elements were softened through layered planting, carefully scaled circulation, and the introduction of light-reflective surfaces. A covered outdoor room with an integrated fireplace was incorporated as a central gathering space, anchoring the garden and extending usability through all seasons. Material selection focused on warmth, durability, and longevity, reinforcing a dialogue between the built form and the garden.
