HORTICULTURE & MAINTENANCE ASSISTANT

Job Description:

We are looking for a reliable Horticulture & Maintenance Assistant, with the desire to eventually lead their own team(s). Some experience is considered an asset – willingness to learn.

Location of work: Vancouver, and surrounding areas

Job Duties:

Garden Install & Maintenance – Assist with:

  • Maintaining the good health and presentation of gardens
  • Pruning of ornamental trees, shrubs and hedges, weeding and bed work, plant care, fertilizing, mulching and soil amendments, lawn care (mowing, weeding and line trimming), and pest and disease control
  • Move and transport materials using shovels, wheelbarrows, carts, dollies and manual lifting
  • Ensure to report on property performance to Horticulture & Maintenance Manager
  • Clean and maintain hard surfaces, as well as all hardscape and paved areas
  • Conduct minor repairs for irrigation and lighting
  • Plant installation and garden renovations when required
  • Perform preventative maintenance on tools and equipment by conducting inspections, lubricating, and cleaning on a daily basis
  • Maintain standards of cleanliness and organization in assigned trucks, trailers, equipment, job sites, and shop/yard areas
  • Ensure that all work activities are carried out in a safe and efficient manner
  • When required: support landscape installation crews with construction labour (i.e. walls, walkways, driveways, patios, lawns, gardens etc.)

Requirements:

  • Must possess a valid BC driver’s license
  • Must possess steel toes, rain gear and secateurs
  • Must have effective communication skills (both verbal and written) in English
  • Must have physical attributes, strong work ethic and stamina to meet the physically demanding nature of the role – the ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. repeatedly through an entire work shift
  • Ability to work under pressure, in a fast-paced environment and tight deadlines
  • Excellent attention to detail – with good analytical and problem-solving skills
  • High energy and enthusiasm – and happy to work outside in various conditions including heat and humidity, rain, dust, noise, and cold (rain or shine!)
  • Competent in the safe and responsible use of power tools and equipment – Must adhere to WorkSafe practices and policies

Selection Criteria:

  • Ideal candidate has 2-3 years experience in maintenance and soft scape installation
  • Horticulture Diploma, Certified Landscape Technician or working towards Red Seal considered an asset
  • Knowledge of horticultural matters, plants, and plant identification skills considered an asset
  • Landscape maintenance experience on large, high-end properties considered an asset
  • Knowledge of basic irrigation repairs – and other specific materials, methods, tools, and equipment considered an asset
  • Knowledge and experience in the landscape hardscape aspects considered an asset
  • Knowledge of LMN time is considered an asset

LEAD HAND

Job Description:

We are looking for a reliable Premium Residential Landscape/Hardscape Lead hand with knowledge and experience in paving stone, driveways, patio and path installs, natural stone installation, concrete, retaining wall installation, turf and artificial turf Installations, garden installations, lawn and garden drainage, water features and material installation such as soil, mulch, and gravels, planting, excavation.

Location of work: Vancouver, and surrounding areas

Job Duties:

  • Execution of landscape installs and projects
  • Construction of walls, walkways, driveways, patios, installation of lawns, gardens
  • Move and transport materials using shovels, wheelbarrows, carts, dollies and manual lifting
  • Operate various tools and equipment, and take part in preventative maintenance on tools and equipment by inspecting, lubricating, and cleaning on a daily basis
  • Take part in maintaining and enforcing standards of cleanliness and organization in assigned trucks, trailers, equipment, job sites, and shop/yard areas

  • Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience in the landscape/construction industry

  • Knowledge of specific materials, methods, tools and equipment required to complete various landscape/construction practices, plant ID is an asset
  • Valid BC driver’s license is an asset
  • Competent in the safe and responsible use of power tools and equipment (cut-off saws, plate tampers, jackhammers, skill saws, sod cutter, drills, etc.) is an asset
  • Ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines
  • Physically fit with strong stamina
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work both independently with little supervision, and as part of a team
  • Ability to operate skid steers and excavators considered an asset

Work Conditions:

  • Ability to work with hand tools, power tools, small engine equipment, heavy equipment, and materials
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. repeatedly through an entire work shift
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Work near heavy equipment and other vehicles on a regular basis

LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT DESIGNER

Job Description:

Opportunity to grow, and really put your own mark down, as lead Landscape Architect Designer with an established premium innovative smaller company.

We are currently seeking a professional, enthusiastic, conscientious, and experienced individual to join our team in the role of Landscape Architect Designer. The central functions of the role are to lead, and be accountable for:

Job Type: Full-time

Wage Range: Salary: $55,000.00-$85,000.00 per year (Based on Experience)

Deliverables:

  • Client meetings and communications
  • Potential future estimating/sales using provided software and project planning
  • Landscape Design ranging from conceptual sketching to full scale master landscape and drainage/grading plans complete with construction packages and estimations/proposals
  • Must be proficient in Adobe, Microsoft Excel and Word – AutoCAD and/or Dynascape, SketchUP
  • Must be self- motivated, client- oriented, highly organized, hardworking, flexible person who thrives in a fast paced environment and has knowledge of landscape building practices and horticulture
  • Candidate will enjoy working as part of a team, communicate well with others and have demonstrated experience project managing (Residential, Commercial and Municipal)
  • Preference will be given to experienced confident designers with great attitudes and creative, functional portfolios

Selection Criteria:

  • Landscape Architect Designer: Professional degree in Landscape Architecture or equivalent with preferred 5-10 years’ practical experience. License and registration with BCSLA, or eligibility to transfer current province’s registration to BC.
  • OR Landscape Designer/Technician: Diploma or post secondary degree in Landscape Architecture Technology, Landscape Architecture/Design, Diploma in Horticulture or Environmental Landscape Management
  • Min. 2 years’ experience, but Min. 5 year’s preferred, in Residential Landscape design utilizing the following computer design software:
  • Dynascape, AutoCAD 2018, Microsoft Office, Vector works, Adobe Suite, InDesign, Photoshop CC and 3D rendering software such as Sketch Up Pro and/or Lumion
  • Experience in preparing Tender Drawing Packages including construction details, specifications and Bid Forms
  • Strong grading, planting design and landscape construction knowledge, familiarity with BC zones and municipality requirements
  • Site plan development skills, such as site assessments obtaining field measurements and grades
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage and communicate with internal and external team members, consultants and clients. Highly organized, works well independently, multi-tasks, prioritizes and balances multiple deadlines in a creative and high-performance environment
  • Attention to detail and the ability to balance multiple projects with accuracy and efficiency
  • Proficiency with applicable graphic presentation and visualization programs is an asset
  • Organized with excellent written, verbal and graphic communication skills
  • A curious edge and a lifelong love of learning
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license preferred
